6 Tips to Start Fresh in 2020
The end of the year comes with a rush. As the clock’s ticking, you are confronted with two diametrically opposed feelings. On one hand, you are worried there isn’t enough time for you to squeeze in those last-minute-year-end plans. On the other hand, you can’t wait for it to be all over. You want to be past the point of having to make a meaningful decision. You want to chill and have the comfort that knowing you have all the time in the world to ponder your next move.
Either way, this upcoming year, there’s a lot to be excited about. Not only are we starting a new year, but we’re also starting a new decade. If you’re looking for a fresh start in 2020, there are things you can do to make that happen.
- Build Healthy Habits
New Year is a perfect time to jump-start healthy habits. Set up some healthy challenges like making a daily smoothie, consuming more greens, exercising regularly, or simply staying hydrated. Try them for 30 days and your body will tell you the difference, then try to integrate them as best you can in the long-run.
2. 30-day Plank Challenge
Do what feels right for you! Whether that is going to the gym, swimming, taking a walk, going on a hike, joining a Zumba class, doing yoga, trying kickboxing or just jogging. Look into what classes might be offered in your area and take the plunge to try something new.
If you’re looking for a daily challenge that can be done at home, try the 30-day plank challenge. Start with a 30-second plank and work your way up each day by holding it 5-10 seconds longer. The key to success is to plan a certain time a day to do this challenge so it becomes your daily routine.
3. Let’s Break Up Bad Habits
Whether it is reducing refined sugar or limiting the spending, it’s all about CHANGES. Once you set up the goal, say goodbye to the bad habits, you have to stick to the plan. Try writing them down on a memo and sticking it to your fridge or wall or anywhere that can remind you what you have promised to yourself—a better you!
4. Practice Mindfulness
Never neglect the importance of your mental health, as it’s essential for our overall well being. Start today by waking up 10 minutes earlier to do a morning meditation, light up an incense, put on meditation podcast, follow the unwinding music and focus on your breath. By developing this habit, you feed your soul with gratitude and affirmation before starting the day fresh.
5. Get A Fresh New Look
You’ve heard that “New Year, New Me” saying right? While you are focusing on your inner growth, why not take this chance to also work on our outlook as well? Get a new hair cut, a new hair color, change your clothing style or even your make up. Get out of your comfort zone, try different styles, embrace the real you.
6. Share Your Resolutions With Others
It’s great to make a resolution for yourself and even write it down, but if no one else knows about it, it’s easy to forget about or even ignore it. When you don’t achieve it, no one will notice or care. On the flip side, your counterparts who decided to tell someone about their goal, feel something different. Now that they’ve gone public with their goal, they feel a sense of obligation and accountability. Essentially, if you don’t follow through, they are going to let everyone down.
Crazy as it sounds, this sense of guilt is often more powerful than self-motivation. The up-side here is that when you do succeed, the people you shared with will celebrate with you!
