Superfood FAQ: Spirulina Powder
Question: What is Spirulina Powder?
Answer: Spirulina is a natural 'algae' (cyanbacteria) that has been used by a variety of civilizations for centuries. These ancient civilizations would harvest spirulina from nearby freshwater lakes, streams, rivers, and ponds and then dry out the algae before consuming. Spirulina was a daily staple for these natives and it became their primary source of protein as well as a good source for antioxidants, B-vitamins and other nutrients.
Question: Where does the Healthworks Spirulina Powder from and how is it the processed?
Answer: Unlike plants you may grow in your garden, this 'miracle' plant is a form of blue-green algae that springs from warm, fresh water bodies.
Our high purity powder comes directly from the entire algae plant which is hand harvested, dried at low temperatures, and then carefully milled into fine powder.
This process retains the high nutritional value of the spirulina and allows for maximum digestion and absorption when consumed.
Question: What does it taste like?
Answer: Spirulina has a strong seaweed like taste and most consumers add it to recipes or put it in swallowable capsules.
Question: How long does a bag of Spirulina Powder last for?
Answer: Healthworks Spirulina Powder has an expiration date of about 2 years after purchase when unopened and a shelf life of 3 months after opening.
